As a self-taught sculptor,
I work in a variety of materials including wood, stone and mixed
media.
Often I begin with no preconceived ideas about what a finished
piece will be. Through free carving stone or by simply beginning
to use certain materials, a familiarity develops and the process
of discovery begins.
My work speaks partly about my own nature, but it is important
to acknowledge the partnership between the sculptor and the sculpture,
one cannot exist without the other and the character of the material
is regarded as an integral part of my work.
The process is as important as the finished piece; ideas, feelings
and elements of my own history unfold as the sculpture reveals
itself. This is the intimate nature of the creative process. I
would hope though that the end piece would be somehow independent
from where it came, transcending it’s own beginning. In
order to speak to the viewer, touching something within or perhaps
hinting at something beyond.
Commissions undertaken for Private or Corporate sculpture, large
or small pieces considered. Garden sculpture or large outdoor,
in situ work undertaken; including chainsaw work. Please contact
me to discuss any ideas you may have.
